Brána je typickým symbolem města. Zachovala se jako jediná z původních pěti středověkých bran.
Gate of the Mother of God originated during the construction of the city and the castle system in the 13th century. It has undergone modifications over the ages and after the fire. Today it has a Renaissance superstructure and with it a total height of 24 meters.
It is open to the public as Lookout Tower. Inside is exhibition of reproductions of paintings by the academic painter Gustav Krum “From the History of Jihlava”. These are 25 colorful sheets of tempera and watercolors that document the most important historical events of the city. The originals can be seen in the representative mayor's lounge of the Jihlava City Hall.
Jihlava Fortress is another permanent exposure gates and is focused on the formation and development of fortifications in Jihlava. These are information panels, a model of the city from the 15th century, reproductions of veduts, maps, city plans or aerial photographs of the center. The visitor will get acquainted with a detailed description of the formation of fortifications in the 13th century, the most massive development in the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as the demolition of the main parts of the fortification system (city gates) and entire belts of walls in the 20th century. There are also details from the history of the preserved Gate of the Mother of God.
They can also be seen fresco from the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from 1402, which depicts the historical event of the robbery of the city, and other exhibits that acquaint the visitor with the appearance of Jihlava over the centuries, for example from the instruction books of the travelers or the plans of the city and its surroundings from the seventeenth century. On display is a regulatory plan from 1940 or aerial photographs of the city from 1948 and 1993.
