Baroque pearl of the city of Polné
The monumental structure on Hus Square in Polná is a landmark of the city next to the castle and chateau. It is one of the most exquisitely decorated church buildings in the whole of the Czech Republic.
The largest of the four churches in Polen was built in 1700-1707 according to the plans of the Italian master Dominic de Angeli on the site of the former Gothic Church of the Mother of God; the latter was demolished in 1699 for this purpose. The construction of the Marian Temple was directed by the Italians John and Pietro Spinetti.
The building has a floor plan of a three-nave basilica, the tower reaches a height of 63.5 m. The interior is decorated with rich stucco and fresco decoration, which is a testament to the impeccable work of Florentine masters.
The unique large Baroque organ, a work by David Sieber from 1708, is probably the largest surviving Baroque organ made in the Czech lands. They are complemented by a smaller, very rare organ from the late 16th century on a belt drive.
Part of the church is the Church Museum.
