Today's appearance of a simple baroque structure dates from 1776 - 1784. The church was founded in the Middle Ages.

Retains major works of art - Late Gothic wooden group “Laying in the Grave” dates from the 1st third of the 16th century. The Renaissance metal lamp of eternal light, the gilded baptistery and other objects were donated by Hynek Brtnický z Wallenstein and Kateřina Zajmaček z Kunštát between 1573 and 1596.

Church paintings and sculptures are also significant, notably the Pieta of 1718 and the Guardian Angel of 1715, carvings Brtnik sculptor David Lipart. The parish church preserves the remains of an unknown early Christian martyr, called St. Fidelius. They were transferred to Brtnice from Rome in 1732.
