Jihlava Fortress Nature Trail

The Jihlava city fortification is significant for its unprecedented scale, but also for its contribution to the military importance of the city, located on the border between Bohemia and Moravia. The nature trail follows the preserved parts of the fortifications and introduces the development and history of this important monument.

We will start the trip along the Jihlava Fortress nature trail at Gates of the Mother of God. From there we continue briefly along Mother of God Street and then turn right to Minoritská Square. We bypass the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and get to Hradební parkán. In this part, the trail follows Hradební Street, opposite the City Park department store it crosses Znojemská Street and again follows Tchaikovsky Street after the park. At the end we cross Brněnská street and we still go around the park Church of St. James the Greater. We can reach it by stairs from the Little Heulos forest park. At the church we turn right and take Hluboká Street to reach Masaryk Square. From the end of the church Sv. Ignatius of Loyola The trail crosses diagonally the upper part of the square into Komenský Street, which leads up to the Horácký Theatre. Here we turn left along the trail, continue along Divadelní Street and at its end we turn right into Palacký Street, then left into Jan Masaryk Park, where we pass Dukla cinema on the right. At the end of the park we will cross Husa Street and Tower Street and through Gustav Mahler Park we will return back to the Gate of the Mother of God.
